Boot Fail, Kernel Panic all the time.

My Mac Pro early 2008 won’t boot I constantly have Kernel panic With the usual ” "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button….. in 4 language.

At Start Up Manager all my Bootable Disk are there. I’ve tried different Bootable Items. But it all end up with Kernel panic. I even try to boot with my Install DisK Lion , same result. I Also try Safe mode, once again :KP.

My machine came with 2GB of Ram, I’ve add 4 extra GB (pair of 2) so I have 6GB. I thought maybe my issue is Ram so I pulled out the pair of 4GB, but It doesn’t do anything and I always have K.P.

Can somebody let me know if it’s my Graphic video card? Unfortunately I live in an Island in the South Pacific : No serious Apple Service around.

Thank you.

Mac Pro early 2008. 4 HD in 4 bay, total 3500GB. OSX 10.6.8 - 10.8 - EI Capitan - Each OS is in a different HD. 6GB RAM. The machine is working fine so far.!!!

something is missing after the r it was hidden by the "you need to restart your computer.".. I hope it's O.K. after all.

Following those instruction from GITHUB.COM,

• You need a bootable USB stick, for instance using Disk Utility's Erase with Format: OS X Extended and Scheme: GUID Partition Map.

• Let's assume the USB stick is mounted under /Volumes/USBstick.

• Download the AHT for your computer model from the list below.

• Mount the AHT dmg. Let's refer to the mount point as /Volumes/AHT.

• Copy the AHT to the USB stick and flag it as bootable

I’ve download the AHT, actually there’s 3 of them for my Mac Pro 3.1 .when I open it. the names of the Volume is all: AHTDOne.

Though the name of The Volume is ATHDOne I copy it to the USB stick I named : /Volumes/USBstick

Then I enter those to the Terminal: “cp -r /Volumes/AHT/System /Volumes/USBstick/

sudo bless --folder /Volumes/USBstick/ --file /Volumes/USBstick/System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics/diags.efi --label AHT”

And here is the result when I hit enter:

Last login: Fri Sep 16 08:45:06 on ttys000

Louiss-MacBook-Pro:~ josephbuis$ cp -r /Volumes/AHT/System /Volumes/USBstick/

cp: directory /Volumes/USBstick does not exist

Louiss-MacBook-Pro:~ josephbuis$ sudo bless --folder /Volumes/USBstick/ --file /Volumes/USBstick/System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics/diags.efi --label AHT

Password:

No mount point for /Volumes/USBstick/

Can't determine mount point of '/Volumes/USBstick/' and ''

Louiss-MacBook-Pro:~ josephbuis$

when I try to boot with the USB by pressing the Option Key, the

/Volumes/USBstick do not appear at the Start up Manager.

I also tried to make a bootable USB With Disk Utility > restore ..Source.. destination..

But once again the USB drive now named AHTDOne is not in in the Start up Manager with the other bootable items.

Thank you.

Actually my back fan is not spinning.

So I pull apart everything. (Already did that once when a fan spin at very high speed and very noisy.)

I make a big cleaning, blowing weak pressure air everywhere - Pretty clean in there, not much dust - Also clean the Processor Heatsink, and even change the Thermal-Grease.

I put everything back. And now my computer is working. Front and rear fan is spinning. Everything seems to be O.K. At Start up it only says my clock is set to 2007. No big deal...

But when I check my video card radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB the fan is not spinning; I don't know if it's normal or not but since I'm afraid that can heat up and cause new trouble, I just turn off the machine, and try to find some answer in line, but didn't fine anything about that.

I don't have special Apple thermal grease for the heatsink and I used the one for all PC.

If you have any Idea about the graphic card fan and if the thermal grease is O.K. Please let me know.

Thank you.
